Put Your Stored Energy to Work with Sol-Ark VPP Programs

Get more from your battery

Your Sol-Ark system can do more than provide dependable backup power. Through an eligible Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program, your battery can help support the electric grid during periods of high demand and potentially earn incentives when it discharges extra stored energy to the grid.

*Program availability, eligibility, and incentives vary by location and utility.

How VPPs work with your Sol-Ark system

A Virtual Power Plant connects participating home energy systems into a coordinated network. When electricity demand is high, the program can draw available energy from participating batteries to help support the grid.
With a Sol-Ark hybrid inverter and compatible battery storage, your system can:

  • Support the grid during periods of peak demand
  • Help reduce strain on local energy infrastructure
  • Potentially earn incentives for participating
  • Maintain a backup reserve based on your system settings

Sol-Ark integrates VPP capabilities into its hybrid inverter platform, making it easier for eligible homeowners to enroll, participate, and manage their system.

1. Own or Install an Eligible Sol-Ark System

To participate, you will need a Sol-Ark hybrid inverter, battery storage, internet connection, and an account with a participating utility. Sol-Ark hybrid inverters are VPP-ready out of the box.

2. Enroll in an Available Program

Review the VPP programs available in your area, confirm your eligibility, and complete enrollment. Supported programs may allow enrollment through the MySolArk V2 app.

3. Participate Automatically During Grid Events

During qualifying grid events, your system can automatically share available battery energy within your configured reserve limits and the program’s requirements.

4. Earn Incentives

Compensation varies by program and may be based on available battery capacity, energy delivered, event participation, or system performance.
Final eligibility is determined by the utility or program administrator.

You can maintain a battery reserve for backup power based on your household needs and the requirements of your VPP program. Your system only shares energy that is available within those configured limits.

Backup availability depends on your battery’s state of charge, reserve settings, household energy use, system configuration, and program requirements.

Participating in a VPP can help you gain more value from your Sol-Ark energy storage system while supporting a stronger, more resilient electric grid.

  • Earn potential incentives from stored energy
  • Increase the return on your battery investment
  • Help support grid reliability during peak demand
  • Maintain a configurable reserve for backup power
  • Participate automatically once enrolled
  • View program activity through the connected Sol-Ark platform

Virtual Power Plant program availability, eligibility, incentives, payments, earnings, dispatch frequency, and participation requirements vary by utility, location, and program and are subject to change. Participation and financial benefits are not guaranteed. Backup power availability depends on system configuration, battery state of charge, reserve settings, household consumption, and program requirements. Actual performance, savings, incentives, and results will vary.

VPP FAQs

Dispatch events typically use only a portion of your stored energy. Your system continues to prioritize backup protection based on the reserve capacity you specify. However, backup availability cannot be guaranteed and depends on battery charge, household use, system configuration, and program conditions.
Additional hardware is not typically required when you have an eligible Sol-Ark inverter, compatible battery storage, and an internet-connected system. Requirements vary by program.
If the program cannot communicate with your energy storage system, or if your energy storage system cannot discharge when needed (due to a maintenance issue), the incentive paid will be affected.
Once enrolled, your Sol-Ark system manages participation automatically.
Opt-out rules vary by program, but typically you can opt out of events. However, the incentive paid will be affected. Where supported, homeowners can review event information and opt out through the MySolArk V2 app.

You can request to withdraw your system from the program at any time by emailing your utility. However, if you are removed from the program, you will not receive incentives for that season. Note: Once enrolled in the program, you will remain in the program year over year until you provide notice to the utility that you would like to be removed from the program.

Earnings depend on the individual program, your available battery capacity, event participation, energy delivered, and system performance. Incentive amounts are not guaranteed.

Payment structures vary. Programs may offer enrollment incentives, capacity payments, event payments, or performance-based compensation.
Payouts are performance-based compensation and are subject to program approval, customer eligibility, and applicable program terms. Compensation varies based on system size, available capacity, event participation, and overall system performance. Actual earnings may differ from estimates or examples and are not guaranteed.
Not necessarily. The number, duration, and timing of events depend on the program and grid conditions. Events typically occur during periods of high electricity demand during the specified season.
Participation in the program does not impact Sol-Ark equipment warranties.
